I'm looking into different picture hosting solutions because I've grown terribly dissatisfied with the way blogger compresses images. This will likely mean that larger versions of pics wont be available anymore. At least you wont have to look at the pictures from 5 feet away in order to ignore the artifacts left behind by Blogger's horrendous image manipulation. And if you really want a a large version just let me know and I'll get you one in a not-so-timely fashion.

If you're reading this, it's very likely I've already expressed my views with you regarding this sort of situation.
I've been trying to rant less recently, c'est pas beau, photography seems like a nice way to vent.

I bought a new lens, shot some pigeons

I purchased the cheapest lens Canon makes, the 50mm 1.8.
It's all plastic, the focus ring feels even cheaper than my kit's,
and I love it!

The pigeons were the first subjects to make themselves available after I slipped the new lens on.
Above is the first pic I took with my new lens that wasn't of my feet. You can see how excited I was to open the aperture all the way to 1.8, it resulted in an overly sensitive depth of field effect, making the pigeon's head fuzzy while the feet are clear.

My biggest reservation prior to purchasing was the 50mm
focal length. It's near the full zoom end of my kit lens(18-55)
which I've mostly used in wide angle. But the price and
generally favorable feedback convinced me. I figured it
would be cool to have if only for specific applications, like
portraits and stuff. After spending the day with it though,
I'm convinced it'll be on for a while. It takes nicer pics.

Also, it's very small and light, it makes my camera easier
to tote. And you know what they say is the best camera?!

It's the camera you carry with you of course! Here I am
holding one such camera, trying once again to smile for
my webcam, which was for many years my MAIN cam.


Later last night, as I was converting files, backing up my hdd, chatting and playing back music all at once. My aging computer, with it's broken fan, overheated and shut down.
There are probably some good arguments as to why this isn't the best way to deal with it, but it was running cool within a few minutes.
